About.

Introduction

The Togolette Project in the community of Houstiafa near Aneho, Togo, is a groundbreaking initiative for sustainable waste management. Initiated and financed by Eaupropre d’Afrique, the project transforms traditional toilets into valuable resources.
Supervised by German agronomists Sophia Schönherr and Franz Sigl, local craftsmen are working diligently to implement this innovative technology.

Project Goals:

  • Improving sanitation solutions:
By constructing innovative toilets, human waste is separated and repurposed.
  • Promoting sustainability:
Urine is used as a natural fertilizer, while feces are transformed into organic compost.
  • Reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers:
The project lessens dependency on expensive chemical fertilizers and helps protect natural resources.
  • Strengthening local agriculture:
The use of organic fertilizer boosts soil fertility and supports healthy crops.

Innovative Approach

The specially designed Togolette toilets separate urine and feces at the source. Urine, rich in nutrients, is repurposed as high-quality fertilizer, while feces are processed into compost, which helps enhance agricultural soil quality.

Impact:

  • Environmental protection:
Reduces the burden on water and the environment through sustainable waste management.
  • Sustainable agriculture:
Improves soil quality with natural fertilizers, supporting long-term agricultural productivity.
  • Cultural shift:
The project demonstrates how waste can be turned into valuable resources, inspiring sustainable practices.
  • Conclusion:
The Togolette Project is not only a technical innovation but also a model for sustainable development in the region.
It illustrates how simple solutions can make a significant impact on environmental conservation and the future.
